What Reddit features do you *not* want kbin to have?
  • Yeah, I noticed them on Lemmy and thought they might be a good way to remember people I interact with. There were too many people on Reddit, so I hardly ever bothered looking at user names. The avatars stand out better and remind me of forums.

  • Who are your favourite directors?
  • I've enjoyed everything from Benson and Moorhead. Unique ideas, creative shots, and interesting stories that aren't spoonfed, but without getting lost up their own asses. Probably my favorite lesser known filmmakers.

I'd recommend starting with The Endless. It's about two brothers returning to the UFO death cult they'd escaped as kids, and having to face the possibility that maybe the cult had been right all along.

  • Who are your favourite directors?
  • Green Room was great, loved how it held the tension all the way through. Murder Party sounded interesting but could easily be terrible, I didn't realize it was the same guy. I'll have to check it out.

  • What’s your favorite slang term from an earlier decade?
  • I still call stuff "neat".

I can't use it 'cause I'm a white boy, but I love unironic jive talk. A while back, I was watching a documentary about the black panthers and I think that was the first time I'd heard real people talking like that. Dudes were cool.

  • Songs with James Bond theme vibes

It's not really a genre, but one of the musical niches I really dig are songs that sound like they could be the theme of a Bond movie. Usually female vocals, very dramatic sounding, maybe an orchestra.

Bjork's Bachelorette is one of my favorites.

Caro Emerald's I Belong To You is great too.

What have you got that fits that mood?

Do you listen to any new bands? Or just same as 10 years ago?
  • I still listen to new music, but most of it is related to stuff I listened to as a kid. I was big into 90's alt rock, and there's so much of it that I keep finding stuff I hadn't listened to from that era. Right now Butthole Surfers have been getting a lot of play; they were always kinda on my radar, but the name really put me off. Can't believe I missed out for this long.

I've always liked folk punk and alternative country, but there wasn't a ton of it when I was younger. Now there's so much more so I've been discovering lots of new bands. Blackbird Raum is pretty great, and Amigo the Devil might be one of my new favorites.

  • Something I WONT miss from Reddit/other social medias
  • Hoping they don't come with a deluge of OnlyFans spam. Reddit had some good niche NSFW subs, but they got watered down with generic content. The same stuff gets posted to every sub, with a mad libbed title to fit the kink. Their profiles are just a hundred of the same picture, titled Would you _____ a ______ or Am I too ____ for ____?

I think the worst offender was a ginger who made it to the top of HotArabGirls or something.

  • I don't mind good jokes, but Reddit has standard "inside jokes" that are posted to almost every thread. That and the endless quotes from television shows. I like Arrested Development too, but god damn can we just have a conversation without asking how much one banana costs?
