Since the slow start of a community here I might as well throw some stuff up here to fatten the numbers...

I am an alignment tech by day and music enthusiast 24/7. Been in the biz for 30 years. Seen all kinds of fads come and go. I like to cherry pick, mix and match, and try to come up with my own thing.

Being in the biz so long, and slowly turning into a tree hugging hippy who loves bicycles... I've grown out of love with cars, but I do still appreciate them. And for now I'm stuck driving this as it's paid for, and it'll run another 20 years as long as the rust doesn't take it. I've never had much opportunity and money to have a project car. I would of I could though.

Either way, I enjoy messing about with the look of my daily from time to time. The current guise. Not bad even when filthy.

Figured with the last few threads inspiring me to try out a dry herb vape. And I realized I knew nothing about it. But reading the manual and getting it going was easy. And I just experimented a bit and with temps. And apparently I landed in a pretty good sweet spot.

I will share some more of my experience, but I would like to hear some others more experienced takes on their usages, tips, tricks, favorite temps and getting the most out of it. Thanks!

I already had a recent repressing of Focus by Cynic. An album that I indeed was very hip to back when it came out. Having heard that the Cats on Death's Human record had their own band, we all glommed onto dirty hand me down cassette copies of this album. It was hard to come by in the local record stores and I don't even recall if it ever got an early CD release.

Here we are 30 years later and everyone claims this as an influence, and maybe that's the case, but I know they got very little love in the death metal underground at the time. But for many musicians in the scene, this was the high water mark for many, many years to come, and is still remembered as a timeless classic. Now that 2/3 of the original lineup have left us, we're left with reissues and remixes, and maybe the occasional record Paul decides to put out.

So what's the point of yet another re-mixing of Focus? I don't know, but I bought it anyways.

First impression, more lows, and low mids overall, better stereo separation on guitars, but still hopelessly scraggly and washed out sounding as ever, which was always the biggest let down of this record.

One day I'll spin these side by side to see the difference, but I can't help but feeling like someone cranked a "bass" knob on a cheap EQ. And since I listen direct into a mixer and powered studio monitors, well, that's not the case.

Just getting around to spinning the new Blackbraid II record. Digging what I hear so far. I hope it wasn't a rush to get out a record to ride the wave of hype from the first. Because that was a pretty fast turn around.

Anyone have any thoughts on this platter?

Now spinning my vinyl copy. Sorry no pics, as my phone cam is broken. I have such a backlog of records I haven't had time to spin. Finally getting to this one. I have put off even streaming it until I spun the record proper. Glad I did. Sitting here taking it in properly while bouncing around the fediverse is inspiring and enjoyable. Cheers all. I've been a long time bass player dabbling in guitar the whole time. I also do many forms of oldskool electronic and tracked/chip music. Also being into retro computers, I've been trying with the idea of using the c64 as my main arranger. Either for drums, "strings",pads, and other ambient sounds with of course guitar and vocals. The trick would be to pull it off not as a gimmick or novelty. It's more about the vibe and concept. I should probably make some demo tracks at some point as a test.

Got an invite from a buddy with an extra ticket for Emperor/Immortal Bird. I dig Ihsahn and all but stoked for IB. Friday Night! Work is gonna suck the next morning.

Anyone using their retro machines to make music or for live use? I experimented with making live Acid music with a C64, using Mssiah, and a 303, etc. The timing of the 303 clone wanders sync too much as is but maybe adding a better midi clock like a modern drum machine to help keep it all synced.

Thought, opinions?
