Dr. says I must completely quit marijuana?
  • They never tested me, but the advice was to not "combine drugs". They also asked questions to make sure I was not addicted to anything. ADHDers have a higher % of substance abuse, so there's that.

In my opinion it's always better to test treatments in the "cleanest" state possible, so you know better how the medicine works. ADHD medications also take some testing to understand what's "best". I ended up naturally avoiding coffee too (I didn't need it anymore)

The way the posed the testing though, it seems either a requirement from insurance or the specific clinic or the country you are in.

  • Problems taking meds
  • I definitely don't have the part pre-medications, and I have the caffeine jitters only sometimes - less than once a week. I'm taking concerta for reference.

I'm very curious about the pre-medication jitters. It feels to me more like anxiety/anticipation than a symptom of medication. What happens if you delay taking medications after you start thinking about it? What do you associate with taking medications? Do you start working or "being in focused mode" right away? I tend to get more jitters if I "need" my meds to be effective soon vs having a bit more time for them to activate fully.

  • Had to stop taking meds, looking for advice.
  • Oh, that's a real bummer (and a fear of mine since high blood pressure runs in my family).

Most of the "automedication" stuff makes the blood pressure rise too, so it's not even easy to "bridge the gap". Try to lower the amount of salt you eat to better your chances of reducing the blood pressure

  • You might have heard ADHD risks being over-diagnosed. Here's why that's not the case
  • If in Amsterdam please avoid GGZ like hell. They don't really have an ADHD center, they have a very small subdivision that can do almost nothing (only psycho education). I'm not sure what is the situation in other cities.

  • (he didn't get ignored for ADHD, he got ignored for tinnitus and he's afraid he will repeat the experience with ADHD).

I also strongly recommend changing doctors if the one he has downplays his concerns. Those doctors should have no clients, but the reality is that most doctors do not accept new clients, so he may be stuck with the current one. He could also report the doctor for this behaviour.
