Hiker, software engineer (primarily C++, Java, and Python), Minecraft modder, hunter (of the Hunt Showdown variety), biker, adoptive Akronite, and general doer of assorted things.
They acquired standard notes... There will probably be notes through that at some point through proton accounts (similar to how it works with simple login).
Maybe they'd go as far as to make standard notes just be proton notes and rebuild the UI to match Proton's look and feel but I kinda doubt that.
If you want more than two options vote for Democrats in primaries that support ranked choice voting initiatives. As it stands, you realistically have a binary choice and until you have ranked choice voting that will continue to be true.
Because if enough people do that, it actually can result in that state not "doing what it always does."
Assuming voting for X is going to result in Y getting elected over Z "anyways" is not a good strategy for getting what you want.
The fediverse as designed is actually pretty inefficient. If it ever were to go to Reddit scale it would melt down.
That's because there's effectively no batching for federation currently ... every single vote from an instance is forwarded back to the instance hosting the community and must be processed individually. So if you get 500k votes on something even if it's from 200 servers, the servers hosting the community have to be able to withstand the flood of votes and store the associated data... And that's just votes.
Worse yet, those votes then get replayed to every single one of those 200 servers one by one. So every server needs 500k vote entries and all the associated traffic ... even if half of the servers are just 1 guy looking at cat videos once a month.
Federating actually is way more expensive than just adding another user as designed.
I'm really glad AT&T and Verizon decided to step in and start competing. At least in my area it's changed everything, Spectrum (formerly the only cable provider) is now offering much more competitive pricing and better service (though AT&T has earned some loyalty because the fiber and symmetric speeds have been really great.
Following the Biden admin pricing transparency regulations I was able to get a better price as well.
Gotta say, Americans do seem significantly dumber than the average world citizen.
Presumably what an American once said about Germans. It can happen anywhere with the right stream of propaganda.
That's really interesting! I'd heard the white flight explanation for downtowns falling apart, but this adds a new layer to it
Old School RuneScape potentially fits this description
Depends on the particular telling I think. DC has IIRC gone both ways with that.
I don't think it really takes a side ... just kind of points out that it's super weird that it's more socially acceptable in one direction than the other.
I do hope the author intended for what I said to be the point though.
I would argue the top picture is also a big no no.
IMO, it shows security is not a priority for them. Just because you're on LAN it doesn't mean encryption is insignificant. There also isn't really "LAN" there are just networks, so this necessitates using some sort of server even in the case where you have an IPv6 or IPv4 address that would otherwise allow you to directly connect to your peer.
Seems interesting. I'm a bit concerned that they don't see encrypting direct traffic as an issue though https://github.com/rustdesk/rustdesk/wiki/FAQ#i-only-use-rustdesk-for-a-few-devices-on-my-local-network-with-no-internet-connectivity-can-i-still-use-rustdesk-with-direct-ip-access
Mixed feelings on that since games that get delisted often get delisted because some critical servers they depend on are going offline.
I'm not sure if that applies to Forza ... but personally the last thing I want is something that's about to be delisted.
I'm not blind, but ... there seems to be quite a bit of progress in this area to the point where (at least on the surface) your claim seems outdated.

flatpak for something as low level as a VPN is just not a great use case. I say that as a huge proponent of flatpak.
It's really weird to think I put out feed to attract the colorful cousins of alligators to my back yard.
They couldn't even be bothered to report the correct keys if you use anything but an xbox controller or allow custom key binds in Dark Souls 3. I will never understand the praise the Dark Souls 3 PC port got.
I don't know if I would call that a Muppet but fair enough lol
People are allowed to not like games you like ...
I also find souls likes to feel janky. Elden Ring is playable for me, Dark Souls 3 I just rage quit rather than dealing with its UI.

The times dives into an intelligence report on how TikTok's political algorithm anomalies align with the CCP's Geostrategic Objectives https://networkcontagion.us/wp-content/uploads/A-Tik-Tok-ing-Timebomb_12.21.23.pdf
This report highlights major differences in the prevalence of hashtags related to subjects like Hong Kong Protests, Tainanmen Square, Tibet, the South China Sea, Taiwan, Uyghurs, Pro-Ukraine, and Pro-Isreal when compared to other major social media platforms.
Additionally the times cited a Wall Street Journal analysis (https://www.wsj.com/tech/tiktok-israel-gaza-hamas-war-a5dfa0ee) which "found evidence that TikTok was promoting extreme content, especially against Israel. (China has generally sided with Hamas.)"

Linux Laptop WiFi Access Point Selection
Hi all,
I'm visiting a relative that has a Google WiFi system with multiple access points. There's an access point literally right next to me that I can see in the KDE BSSID list with 100% connection strength.
For some reason, it's instead picking a BSSID with only 60% strength. Does anyone have any thoughts on why it's choosing this access point instead of one of the others? Is this something the Google WiFi controls/suggests to the laptop, is something bugged, or is there a good reason Linux might be choosing this particular access point?
EDIT: It turns out the access point placement was actually just really bad, and the access point in question was not even making it to the rest of the LAN... The speed difference between my phone and laptop seems to be just that, something to do with a difference between the framework and the Pixel's wireless cards (or drivers). Even with everything corrected, the Pixel is significantly out performing the framework.
Apologies for the recent Spam
The recent spam was a result of me hooking up (my) auto post bot to the Zed community without taking enough precautions.
This is a bot I wrote to take care of posting community news automatically... It's been doing very well for various other Lemmy communities.
Alas... Most RSS feeds are designed to only have a few recent posts. I was expecting it to post maybe 10 things... Instead the RSS feed was complete (i.e., included ALL Zed Industries posts). The bot thus preceded to posted everything Zed Industries has ever posted.
I've removed all the duplicate posts and left the new ones up... Sorry if you were impacted in the ~15 minutes or so it took me to get the situation sorted.
I'll be making some changes to how the bot handles newly added feeds to make sure something like this doesn't happen again.
We've made a short statement addressing a number of Varlamore-related videos aiming to dispel misinformation being spread by bad actors to turn a profit.

Soul Survivor Thoughts & Experiences?
I mostly play the traditional bounty hunt mode. I enjoy it quite a bit, I have over 700 hours in the game, I tend to play in 3-4 star lobbies with friends, and have a ~1.3 KDR.
Soul Survivor on the other hand I've always struggled with. I tend to either get the wellspring and die before the timer runs out or get into a shootout that I just don't have what I need to win before that happens. I've yet to actually win a single game of soul survivor in probably a couple dozen tries.
My Soul Survivor KDR is like ... 0.4. I'm wondering if that's mostly down to the lack of match making? Or just, IDK, does anyone have any advice or experience they want to share about Soul Survivor?
