  • I reckon they could only run with that claim as long as the tires of the time were still crappy! Now imagine any of the Big 3's big hitters on some brand new Pilot Cup tires - my god.

  • Get yourself a headlight restoration kit, it’s worth it!
  • For headlights specifically: both. A cleaner/clearer lens will greatly improve headlight brightness assuming everything else is working as intended.

If you have a car that has headlights like the before pic on this post, I'd highly recommend grabbing a kit.

Also the box said 10 horsepower.

  • Is it a bad idea to daily a car from 1989?
  • From someone that daily'd a 2006 GTO for a few months - I'd recommend against it.

I fucking adore older cars (preferably 85 to 2010) - almost the perfect blend of tech and mechanical elements without being too overly reliant on tech. Fuck touch screens.

However, dailying something that old will definitely be a little bit more challenging than something newer. Sure, it can be cheap to replace parts on an old Toyota, but then you'll need to start looking at your time as a resource. Like how often are you going to want to keep working on it as parts inevitably fail due to age?

It's all up to you, really. If you're in a good spot to be able to make it work then more power to you - but always look at time as a resource as well and recognize that an older car will definitely be biting into your time. Personally, I wouldn't go older than 2003 for a daily.

  • Russian parliament bans gender reassignment surgery for trans people
  • You and me both, fam. I can't even imagine how it must be for a trans person to live in the US south - it is just mind-baffling to think of what it must be in other countries that barely even recognize any of those rights or are even outright hostile to the identity.

  • Elon Musk says Twitter’s ad revenue is down 50% and cash flow is negative
  • It's such a goddamn shame that he's now some sort of Alt-Right icon in their quest for "free speech" cause I'll admit that I used to look up to this fuckin guy.

Take us back a few years, before COVID, and when SpaceX was doing their cool shit - I was fucking pumped about the guy. He was pushing forward in the realm of space exploration and I was absolutely fucking jazzed about it! Or at least that was the appearance; I know that SpaceX has a different company structure to Tesla where Musk can't interfere as much.

Fast forward to now and I gotta ask: dafuq happened?

But I know what happened - he really was always kinda like this. It's just that now - it's going to be a really big damn financial mistake for him and good riddance. He's definitely not some scientific genius - he's just some emerald mine legacy that wanted to throw money at that sort of image.

  • Hollywood Shuts Down After 160,000 Actors Walk Off the Set
  • I think it's even more goddamn nefarious than just destroying the planet for wealth - if some of the shit I've been reading is right, then AI has changed the game and this strike is our fucking chance to get ahead of the shit that these studios want to pull. In what world is it okay to pay an actor a single day's worth of work and retain their likeness in pepertuiry using AI generation.

I'll admit that I'm not very knowledge on the whole workings of the AI part of it, but I do feel like every actor should have full control over their likeness and how it should be recorded and how it is applied to AI.

  • Do window shades help with heat significantly?
  • Having anything, whether tint or shades, to block direct sunlight will help immensely to block heat.

There could be a few tint shops in your area that has a display/demo they can show you: basically a demonstration of how much heat any given tint can block, but even simple shades will help.

Having something will always be better than nothing!

  • It's not much but I love it nonetheless
  • Funnily enough, doing a color scheme of something lighter (like white or red or blue) with black wheels does a better job or making the car look sporty than most "ground effects" packages. Looks super nice!

And I'll die on this hill, but you can have as much fun in a small FWD econo-box as you can with a high-powered RWD sport coupe - take a cruise on a few of the less-used interstates where you can find some windy roads and have some fun!

Slow car fast is just as good as fast car fast. :D

  • I painted my Skyline.
  • Oh man - I don't think I've really ever seen an older Skyline in red before but this looks HOT! Color works really really well with the body lines and the carbon fiber bits are a great accent!

    I love your car! :D

  • Balloon Fight by Fuku Shacho
  • I will always be in awe of how intense artwork like this makes the core material look - it's called Balloon Fight but the guy with the horns over there is almost as jacked as Full Power Frieza. It is AMAZING. :D

  • [Meta] New theme days!
  • Hi Inky! First post on Lemmy and I used to be a perpetual Reddit lurker, especially in r/cars (but hoping to contribute more with the new change of scenery).

I like the themed day ideas but one thing I wanted to take another look at the "what should I do Weds." I know we're still pretty small and have a lack of automation tools but having a rolling weekly or monthly thread solely for automotive tech questions would be very beneficial in centralizing all of that related discussion.

Otherwise - excited to join and contribute and show off my crazy-ass stable of cars!

    • 2006 Pontiac GTO (22k miles with a 6spd)
