I'm cautiously optimistic about Punk. I'm hoping that he's a smart business man and all this anti-elite crap is just to set up a feud, because that would be awesome. No, the reason I left Reddit last week has little to do with with third party app issue. I left because the CEO has shown he isn't interested in listening or addressing community concerns.
I wish they actually did a bit of research on why people are protesting. Saying the third party apps simply "keep communities vibrant" completely misses some major points. Personally, I'm more furious how spez handled the AMA. He showed that the reddit staff has no interest in listening to anything that concerns the community. We're all just an obstacle between them and their deserved money.

I'll have to find it, but multiple places he's talked about Reddit being used by companies to train their AI systems. It's painfully obvious that he's looking for both moral and immoral ways to monetize Reddit immediately. I give it 3 months before this is announced.
