International Chess Federation (FIDE) to ban and punish transgender players
  • Something to keep in mind with studies are outside social factors such as less women playing chess and less women being exposed to chess at a young age. There are fewer women in chess and fewer girls learning chess, for probably centuries. This will have a factor when comparing two demographics.

  • Lebanon, Kuwait Poised to Ban ‘Barbie’ for Promoting Homosexuality
  • Yeah honestly as a gay woman myself I thought there wasn't enough LGBT representation. Apparently there are two barbies who kiss on a couch at one point but it was so quick I didn't see it, my friend had to tell me about it. There really wasn't a lot of any sort of sexuality in the movie. Which makes sense, they don't have genitalia.

  • Probably New Zealanders too.
  • Hey speak for yourself, I was forced into French immersion school by my parents with promises of good government jobs. Now I can understand French but Quebecois is a whole different beast 😂

  • I like the web app more.
  • As far as I've read, that price is for both no ads and Ultra which I guess gives you more perks). For just no ads it is significantly less. For no ads in my version it's $30CAD, which is a high price but is much much less than $100+CAD

  • If you call this journalism I swear by Allah I will shoot myself right here
  • I don't know if this article is new, but if I recall correctly there was a bunch of articles like this around the second wave of COVID, as people were speculating he had dropped a ton of weight due to being super sick. If this is from that time, that's probably the angle they were going for, rather than gossiping about his eating habits like a tabloid magazine.

  • Their slaughtered brethren.
  • My ex thought the only way to get llama wool was to kill the llama. For some reason, this logic only applied to llamas, she understood sheep wool didn't require the same sort of blood sacrifice.

  • How to measure things like a Canadian?
  • That's interesting, I know the one I have now can go between the two and is just defaulted to F, but growing up the one in my childhood home only showed F. I never really understood the numbers in relation to the temp either, I just would notch it up or down a few degrees depending on how cold I was 😂

  • How to measure things like a Canadian?
  • So here (and maybe it's just my family?) I've always seen the home thermostat set in F, while the weather outside is strictly C. So like my house is set at 70f but if I were talking about outside I'd use C. Which is funny because the thermostat in F also means nothing to me, I just notch it up or down a few degrees depending on how cold I am in the winter 😂😅

  • How to measure things like a Canadian?
  • Ontario checking in, 100% accurate. Actually I would add home temperature (like the thermostat) under F, but body temperature (like checking if you have a fever) under C. Also we're so used Americans using miles for distance/speed we'll sometimes use it in idioms ("They ran out of here at 100 miles per hour!”). I never realized this change between measuring systems wasn't the norm until I started chatting with Europeans.

  • Village Harvest
  • You're right, I think of all his paintings of farm workers, its most similar to The Red Vineyard in Arles but like you said there are quite a few.

Farm workers and peasant life became a fairly popular topic for artists mid 19th to early 20th century, as popular culture moved away from the idealistic art of flowery Rococo portraits to realism, and then to impressionism (with other isms in between of course).

  • Opinions: What is a movie you genuinely like, that is rated below 60% on rotten tomatoes?
  • As Above, So Below was one of the first horror movies I ever watched, because I always was a weenie and thought I couldn't handle horror movies. Then one day I decided to watch this one and came to love the genre (I'm still a weenie though). The movie holds a special place in my heart for that reason.

I did find it a little disjointed and some parts felt rushed (like when she has to go back to put the stone back in place). Also the main character is a bit insufferable. But the art direction and set design is great and the movie does a great job at building atmosphere and suspense.

Also I think the other movie you're thinking of is The Borderlands! I've only seen the Ryan Hollinger video about it but it's also great.

  • Dude I loved that movie so much as a kid, so much so that I made Van Helsing themed Sims 2 custom content 😂 My cousins made fun of me relentlessly for loving the movie. Then I re-watched it my first year in university and... It didn't quite hold up but I still love the movie haha
