Group of up to 50 people shoplift about $100K worth of luxury items from L.A. mall; used bear spray against guards
  • Some people dont seem to grasp how all of this works. They seem to think the insurance fairy will pay for the damages and not the businesses (and finally the customers).

  • Dog chases bear away from where Connecticut toddler was playing
  • Well our dog wouldnt see it as a reward if he gets a bath after chasing off a bear. But the treats would be graciously accepted.

  • But the political parties have a lot influence on who is getting the (very well payed) jobs so its not like its really independent.

  • Got a bit of "aboringdystopia" vibes...the fake grass and curvy walkways

  • Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 already has a release date
  • I played modern warfare II for the first time some weeks ago. It really took me some time to find where the campaign can be started. a whole bunch of ads for Season pass, dlc bundle and other shit filled the whole screen. IDK about the multiplayer but the campaign was pretty lackluster. 2/10 wouldnt play again ^^

Any Way to remove the "Random Posts" part of the sidebar?

Im getting lots of NSFW content in the last time. I didnt find anything to disable the media preview in the sidebar either so there is no way to use the site in a setting where someone might see my screen. Anyone got a tipp or ways to change that?

  • Yep. all these thing have been told lots of times allready but not by everyone.

  • Establishing a norm around karma calculations being opt-in across the fediverse
  • Kbin user here...

I think karma in relation to up/down vote of posts is a good thing.
The total karma of an account isnt interesting for me, but other users may be more interested in it.
Best solution in my opinion would be if it is handled instance based. If one instance decides to show the total karma of a user its ok for them another instance might decide to not show the total karma or even completely hide up/downvotes.
So every user can find an instance that alligns with his view on this matter.

  • YSK: Most Stores List “Price Per Ounce” On Every Tag
  • In my country its a law that the "price per weight" has to be on the tag. It may vary which unit they are using but with the metric system its just a matter of moving the comma.

  • at least one lemmy.world admin accepted an off the record meeting with meta, and they won't tell you about it.

  • Thats your opinion…as long as the company pays the servers its their right to manage them as they want. And its the right of everyone of their customers to leave the platform if they dont like it (thats what i did).
Maybe volunteer would have been a better word than employee but that doesnt change the essential part that its reddit whos paying the bills for the servers and the technical staff so in the end they have the last word.
But thx for replying instead of just stupid downvoting.

  • The Coup of /r/AssholeDesign
  • Honestly i get that you are angry/disappointed on a personal level. But its pretty normal reaction from reddits side. You were not cooperative to their request to open up the sub so they searched for someone who would do it.

I dont want to defend them, i allready cleared my account over there but from a business perspective its a normal reaction. If your employees (even if they work without payment) dont follow your instructions you search for someone who does follow them.

And the new mod might be a prick for backstabbing your protest but thats just a opinion. If there are enough users who want to keep using the sub, regardless of reddits shitty behaviour, its ok to reopen it and none of the old mods has a right to hold it "hostage" for their protest.

  • Google execs admit users are ‘not quite happy’ with search experience after Reddit blackouts
  • im adding "-youtube" to searches for a long time. The amount of Clickbaitvideos, no matter what you are searching for, is just crazy.

  • Campaigners alarmed by rejection of refugees using ‘safe and legal routes’
  • Well if even if the safe and legal routes are taken there still has to be some kind of check in places.
I dont get the intention behind this article or what the campaigners want to achieve. Should everyone be allowed to get in as long as he takes the legal route?

  • Canadian Senate passes bill requiring Google, Meta to pay for news
  • we got that bullshit over here too. And when google said they gonna stop linking to newssites the sites cryed „monopoly“ and asked politicans to forbid google to do that. So they want to force google to provide them customers and pay them to do it. I dont like how google does many things but that is just ridiculous

  • Reddit raised $250m for building this
  • Wow what a cheap way to get a avatar that tells everyone you are a nice target for scams.
