The year is 2001, what CD are you playing on your Walkman?
  • I did have a Sony MD player/recorder at that time, and it indeed was better than the CD alternative (which I skipped)

I hardly remember how exactly, but music had to run in order to "burn" it into the MD?

Not long after cheap MP3 sticks became abundant, bringing much more convenience.

  • Man sues 27 women in an 'Are We Dating the Same Guy' Facebook group
  • I don't really follow the news (from anywhere, I'm just walking around in /all here), so this is the first time I'm reading something from the US similar to what's been happening here in SEA for at least the last decade. Mostly exclusive to Facebook from what I've heard, but there are LINE (and other chat) groups too.

There's FB groups with (young) women dating (younger) men and they'll rate those guys based on where they took them for dinner, how much they did spend, etc. Dump/ghost them if the group says those people aren't good enough, or not rich enough. In lesser extent it also happens the other way around, and in an inter-sexual-national setting. And everyone in those groups is out there and is targeting every potential partner, not uncommon for someone to date different people in a particular time period.

So you're not dating a single person, but a whole FB group at that point. With all the bizarre accusations you can come to think of.

Usually, and for obvious reasons, it just stays in those platforms within those groups as there is little legal recourse and nothing newsworthy going in. But there's the occasional witch hunt, or suicide.

    It is absolutely toxic garbage.

I'm old, and am only dating my wife, but I do have friends who are still dating. It is by far the standard, but it does happen they come across this shit.

  • xz-utils backdoor situation (CVE-2024-3094)
  • It's kinda sad to see indeed. There were some good comments but they're buried now so I stopped reading it altogether.

It would be a massive improvement if there was a threaded style comment system like on Lemmy.
