Underworld - Born Slippy (Nuxx)
I posted The Prodigy’s song, ‘Firestarter’, just before. In the same year, Underworld released this as a single, after its inclusion on the soundtrack to Trainsotting. It uniquely straddled dance/techno and alternative clubbing realms. It also had chart presence in certain countries. I consider this a really essential song of the 1990s.

The Prodigy were formed in Essex in 1990. This song is the first single from their third album, The Fat of the Land. This kind of alternative dance was such a different sound and was really innovative, at the time.

Cibo Matto - Sugar Water
Sugar Water by Cibo Matto from the album Viva! La Woman © 1996 🔔 Subscribe & Turn on notifications to stay updated with new uploads! Lyrics: The velocity of time turns her voice into sugar water I'm on a concrete way The wind is blowing to the north-northwest It smells like sands of the ...
A few days ago, I posted this MV by Bailter Space. The vision is edited to play backwards, which you don't quite realise until later on in the clip.
That made me think about other music videos that have some type of backwards video and it led me to 'Sugar Water' by Cibo Matto. Digging a bit deeper, I discovered that it was directed by Michel Gondry (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind). This then made me realise that he also directed Kylie Minogue's video for the song, 'Come Into My World', which isn't reversed but does employ some clever editing/timing techniques in its creation.

Bob Mould - I Hate Alternative Rock
I was going to post something from Bob Mould's 2019 album Sunshine Rock, that I quite like. But then, I thought that this had to be the one to go for :)

The Mysteries of Life - Going Through the Motions
My excellent little find today, is this live performance on Late Night with Conan O'Brien from this band that contained Jake Smith from Antenna and John Strohm and Freda Love from Blake Babies (and Antenna). As well as being band mates, Smith and Love went on to be life partners.
Happily, The Mysteries of Life appear to have most of their back catalogue available to stream.

“Obscure Australian 90s bands that will only get 2 upvotes” - Part 3
As I was quite good mates with this band, I think this is the band of that era who I saw the most times play live…probably dozens of times.
The vocals/bass/songwriting duties were handled by Ross whose brother is (still) in the punk band The Meanies (beloved by Eddie Vedder and Dave Grohl). Both brothers were influenced by 60s music, mod, Bowie etc. and a lot of it comes out in Snout's music. Both bands were on the (locally) legendary Au Go Go Records.
The 90s really were a heyday for music like this. So much so that Snout were nominated for Australian Record Industry Awards (ARIAs) a couple of times. They were up against the likes of Kylie Minogue and Savage Garden, so they didn't win, of course.

Luscious Jackson - Naked Eye
Youse probably know that LJ drummer, Kate Schellenbach was an early member of the Beasties Boys. The BB documentary on Apple TV gives an insight into her time with the band.
I enjoyed the records that Luscious Jackson released and was lucky enough to once see them play live.

Afro Celt Sound System - Release (featuring Sinéad O’Connor) [1996]
RIP Sinéad
Don't argue amongst yourselves Because of the loss of me
I'm sitting amongst yourselves Don't think you can't see me
Don't argue amongst yourselves Because of the loss of me
I haven't gone anywhere But out of my body
Reach out and you'll touch me Make effort to speak to me
Call out and you'll hear me
Be happy for me

Great, great album. I've listened to it so many times, right up from the original release. We saw them live a few times around CA back in the day and they were so fun to watch.
I hope it's OK to post the full album. You'll know if you like/don't like them with the first song. Ha!
