For those that aren't jumping from Kbin to Lemmy with most of SquaredCircle, might I suggest subscribing to https://kbin.social/m/[email protected] so at least we might see some of those conversations? It won't help those of us using the microblog function, but it's worth a shot to keep the conversations going.

🚨🚨Moving Update 3: The Revengening..? (Also final update I guess?)🚨🚨

Incoming long-winded wall-o-text that could have probably been 3 sentences. Idk this is what you get for 99% of what I post being just fuckin' links I guess lol sorry.

---

So I've done a bunch of testing between various instances since before the weekend (including some random ones I didn't mention) and gotten plenty enough feedback from all of you guys who helped. It definitely seems like Lemmy.zip is gonna be the new home for SquaredCircle. Everyone seems to be able to access it, everything is working smooth as silk, things are federating out in a timely manner. On top of that the admin provided links to check the instances federation which could be quite useful in the future if issues occur. The rate at which its picking up subscribers is also faster than we have had on kbin outside of maybe the first month or two (many of whom are likely not even active anymore) which seems like it's gonna help a lot with our growth too. Currently at 89 users in 5 days.

Fedia was in consideration but is a hard no as a bunch of instances you all use aren't even acknowledging its existence (when they should) and the ones I use that are seeing it seem to be federating at delays that would make having discussions or timely news posts completely impossible (6-12hish). I did test a couple other mbin instances but again, federation was lackluster at best.

That being said with the other instances I tried I didn't really find anything too impressive to want to say 'we can use this place as a backup'. (I am also loathe to use one of the other bigger lemmy instances as over the history of lemmy/kbin a lot of defederation has happened (and could continue at a higher rate given their size) and then people could get more easily cut off from the community and cause issues.)

Tying into that: Kbin. We now know Ernest isn't dead at least lol, so while the place may be (at the moment) in shambles the project does continue and the site appears to be safe, if sadly partially reliable. My intention was never going to include deleting this place cause my data hoarder ass doesn't know the meaning of the word 'delete' so tl;dr\~

https://lemmy.zip/c/squaredcircle will become our new home..

..but if it makes sense to all of you: https://kbin.social/m/SquaredCircle/ will become our backup.

Realistically we shouldn't need a backup with lemmy.zip from what I've seen. Bunch of us have been posting and commenting for days now (and as someone who has been using it in general for 6+ months off and on I've had little issues) but we're all already here anyway and if Ernest is working on things then it would be a shame to toss this place in case it does get better. Easier to use it as a backup we may not need than build up a second community from scratch to confuse more people.

---

So assuming that makes sense with everyone, we basically have two weeks left in the original time estimate left. It's up to you all (if you haven't moved over to the lemmy.zip community already) whether you wanna go all in (heh) now or wait out the 2 weeks. If anyone does wanna stay here for the next 2 weeks I'll keep posting stuff across both communities but by the 18th at the latest I'll be full time on the lemmy community and just keeping an eye here for spam now and then until we need it.

---

Also given federation is slow as shit I'm going to also link this onto the lemmy.zip community so any of you over there will know it's been posted instead of waiting 12-24 hours lmao.

🚨🚨🚨MOVING UPDATE pt 2: Electric Boogaloo🚨🚨🚨

Posting as a new thread just for visibility cause lolfederation (ya know, loltna's slightly more annoying cousin).

So at this point I think it's clear we're moving unless if some kind of miracle happens (and while we had the intent originally of waiting until March 18th for any finality in the decision I'm not sure if we'll survive that long lol).

I've spent the last couple days testing several instances (both Lemmy and Mbin) and checking how fast, slow or inoperable their respective Federations seem to be and personally I'm leaning towards the final decision being either Lemmy.zip or Fedia.io as the frontrunners for both software types. I feel Lemmy.zip may be the best choice as (despite no content aside from myself and Jello making the odd thread) the community has already pulled almost 60 subscribers, and Lemmy has a bigger pop/longer existence meaning it might be around longer than mbin/kbin, but that's a community choice.

So - Community Task Time!:

When you have a minute today please visit the SQ community on both:

https://fedia.io/m/SquaredCircle https://lemmy.zip/c/squaredcircle

And I'd like you all to:

A) Make sure (from whatever instance you intend to keep using for your own personal account) that the community shows up for you. If 90% of you can't see one or the other, there's no point selecting it..

B) If they do, please comment on one of the existing posts (there's 1-2 on each community) just to make sure your comments go through and properly federating out. Just make a comment below confirming you did comment in either community so I can keep track when checking. If you already have commented or posted, you're good.

ATTN: 🚨Community Announcement🚨 - We May Be Moving - Vote Inside!

Hello everyone, benevolent overlord #376465 here!

This wonderful little community of ours has grown a lot since it was started by AKittyCat and gloomchen back in June when Reddit chose to increase its decade-long process of going to hell at Mach 3.

That being said no one can predict the future. At the time kbin seemed like an amazing alternative to Lemmy. More features, better interface, improved functionality with Mastodon, etc etc. The reality now 8-9 months later is that kbin is falling drastically behind. I'm sure everyone has noticed the random 500 errors, the errors when upvoting and/or boosting, the occasional downtime, etc etc. Development seems to have stalled out. Ernest (kbin's dev) has had personal issues (which I won't rag on him for letting get in the way, real life comes before this dumb-ass Internet shit 10 times out of 10) but regardless, an absent dev (especially when there's only one) does not make for a good software experience.

But..this is not just my community: It's yours. So it's time for everyone's favourite activity: Sounding off in the comments!

---

As things stand we have two basic options:

A: Ride the wave, stay on kbin and deal with it cause life sucks while hoping Ernest comes back. B: Jump ship and move to another instance with whatever turbulence it could cause.

For A, well nothing changes. Things might get better? Things might get worse? Who knows, roll a die.

For B, we'd be starting fresh with (theoretically) fewer problems, but depending where we go would mean we could lose some features (like if we went to Lemmy, no more microblog and Mastodon integration).

I have set up a SQ backup community a day ago, located on Lemmy.zip (https://lemmy.zip/c/squaredcircle) as it's Federation is fairly wide open which should prevent issues (and from my own experience they don't have much if any issues error-wise like we do here) tho I am not opposed to other instances should people suggest em and they look better (though I love how the .zip community already has 31 subscribers for no reason besides existing lmao).

I'll make two comments below to keep the responses kinda-sorted, and this poll will remain up until approx. March 18th to give time for visibility.

Edit: Our current backup (and possible new home) which I linked above (and again, here) has been unlocked for posting given the heavy weekend we're coming to here, and with kbin's issues seemingly increasing today.

Josh Alexander addresses TNA picking up contract option

> > > I didn’t even know that my contract was coming up, to be honest. All this stuff happened with the termination of Scott D’Amore and stuff like that. And I looked at my contract, I was like, ‘Oh man, February 14? That’s like in three days. That’s weird.’ > > > > So I had to inform Anthem that my deal was lapsed and they had 10 days to pick up the option if they wanted to. And, you know, if you don’t ask, you might never find out. So I certainly asked if they could not pick up my option and we could negotiate something different, because I feel like I’ve outworked that contract I signed. But, you know, it was a team option. It’s something that the ball is in their court. I signed the deal. And it was totally within their rights to pick it up, and I’m completely fine with them picking it up. Like, it’s still a good deal. It’s not something that I’m upset about by any stretch. But just to read tweets and stuff [saying] like, I’m being held hostage and all this stuff and forced to stay here against my will -- that’s not the case. > > > > I signed that deal two years ago. I knew what I was signing when I signed it. At the end of the day, at the end of my career, I want to be able to look in the mirror, hold my head high, and say that I carried myself as a professional first and foremost above anything else I do in this business. I want to say I did things right. And I signed that deal, I’m going to honor that deal, and we’ll see what happens in the next 12 months. Something could be renegotiated for something long-term in the meantime. Anthem has certainly mentioned that they would be interested in something like that. But, at the same time, I thought it would be cool for the first time in my career to kind of hit free agency and see what I was worth on the open market and then renegotiate then and see what could happen then. > > > > But, yeah, I’m totally cool here staying in TNA. I’ve dreamt of being in TNA since I was a 15-year-old kid and I tuned in on Wednesday nights for the first time. So for that to happen, finally get in a TNA ring at the Palms for Hard to Kill and then the next day against Will Ospreay for Snake Eyes. Man, that’s a dream come true. So I want to see this thing through and I will for the next 11 months or whatever it is and then we’ll see where we go from there. But -- not being held hostage [laughs]. That’s a little too dramatic for me. > >

19 CMLL wrestlers US work visas have been/will be cancelled.

Source: PWI

> > > In a developing situation that could have quite a negative ripple effect on upcoming events, PWInsider.com has learned that United States work visas for nearly 20 CMLL stars in Mexico are in the process of being canceled by the United States government. Once that happens, it could take months for new visas to go through the approval process and be issued. > > > > PWInsider.com is told that 19 luchadors including including Volador Jr., Hechicero and Mascara Dorada (who have all appeared on AEW programming of late) as well as Blue Panther, Dulce Gardenia, El Sagrado, El Suicida, Electrico, Espiritu Negro, Euforia, Fugaz, Gemelo Diablo 1 and 2, Magico, Robin, Sangre Imperial, Soberano, Templario, and referee Sagaz are expected to be impacted and unable to perform in the United States. > > > > In speaking to sources close to the situation, the visa blowup is a result of Texas independent wrestling promotion Full Blown Pro Wrestling, which runs Laredo and who had essentially sponsored the group visas for the CMLL talents, running into issues with CMLL management over the course of the visa process. PWInsider is told that CMLL head Salvador Lutteroth had placed other employees, one of whom was heading up the legal department for CMLL but has since left the promotion, in charge of the visa process on CMLL's end. > > > > PWInsider.com is told that the United States Department of Homeland Security contacted Full Blown Pro Wrestling promoter Jerry Cadena with questions regarding the visas (PWInsider.com has not confirmed the specificity of the issue) and that he was informed that he could be accused of fraud if the visas were flagged due to the issue. > > > > As the story goes, Cadena then contacted CMLL about working together to iron out the problem but CMLL's side claimed they would take care of the issue via the United States Embassy in Mexico and wouldn't respond beyond that statement. It should be noted that the Department of Homeland Security, not the Embassy for a specific country, actually issues the work visas here in the United States. We are told by one source that the belief on the CMLL side was they would be able to handle it as a family member works for The Embassy. Whether that could actually be the case remains to be seen. > > > > However with CMLL no longer communicating with Cadena, but his name remaining on the line legally, the word is that he informed the United States Government he no longer had any intentions of working with CMLL going forward and that any agreements he signed to work with their talents were being terminated as of 2/28, which would be today. > > > > So, what does this mean? > > > > Unless there is some sort of miracle to sort this out, which seems unlikely, the aforementioned talents would not be able to travel into the United States legally to perform until a new work visa is acquired for them. We are told such a process could take a few months if everyone involved pays some pretty expensive fees to expedite everything and if everything goes as smoothly as possible, but at times the work visa process could take upwards of six to twelve months. > > > > So, CMLL talents advertised for Wrestlemania weekend events in Philadelphia, New Japan Pro Wrestling's Windy City Riot, etc. may not actually be able to make those dates and perform - again, unless there is some sort of resolution - or someone spends a LOT of money to get the new visas in place while hoping they will be done in time for those big shows here in the United States this Spring. > > > > More as we confirm. > >

Notice: Some bots are spamming the community. Should you notice any weird comments, please do report them.

Noticed over the last few hours at least 4-5 new bot accounts have spammed a thread I made last week with random comments with links to purchase shite. They seem to target older threads I assume to reduce the risk of people finding and removing the comments/links but should any of you see such comments, please to report them so myself, Tellum or Neon can wipe em out.

Thank you \<3

WOR: The Plan Is For TNA To Go Live

Meltzer: "One of the things they've been looking at, and it's not going to happen any time soon, but they want to go live. The idea is to go live and have a location where they would go every Thursday. And Full Sail University is one of the locations that they've talked about....and there are probably other locations as well".

  • Dave says it would be difficult because Orlando already has NXT each week.
  • Scott D'Amore and Lou D'Angeli already went to Full Sail to scout it out.
  • There is some cost savings at Full Sail because they can have the students work on the production side and have students fill up the crowd.
  • A problem is that they're selling some tickets now for their TV tapings. They would need to give tickets away for free if they did Full Sail every Thursday.
  • Dave could see TNA doing a few test runs before the end of the year.
  • Mentality is going live by 2025.
  • Things may have changed with Scott no longer being there.
  • Dave thinks going live would be a bit more exciting for the wrestlers but doesn't know if it will help TV ratings...especially on that channel.
  • "Is it worth the extra cost for a company that is obviously trying to keep costs low? So... we'll see."

For those that aren't jumping from Kbin to Lemmy with most of SquaredCircle, might I suggest subscribing to https://kbin.social/m/[email protected] so at least we might see some of those
  • @TagMeInSkipIGotThis For a couple of weeks Kbin hasn't been federating properly and was constantly failing to load with an error 50x message, the mod (with community input) of SC made the decision to move the main instance to Lemmy.zip and make kbin a "backup."

  • 🚨🚨Moving Update 3: The Revengening..? (Also final update I guess?)🚨🚨
  • I know one of the bigger complaints about Lemmy, which I agree with, is the UI.

Here's a list of apps and webuis for Lemmy.
I'm not sure how up to date the list is as I'm also new to Lemmy.

  • 🚨🚨🚨MOVING UPDATE pt 2: Electric Boogaloo🚨🚨🚨
  • I've seen a few comments about UI on lemmy and just wanted to put it out there that we also have these interfaces you can use:

old.lemmy.zip and m.lemmy.zip - and while yes usually the m denotes a mobile interface but it also works really well on desktop/tablet if you don't like the usual lemmy interface :)

  • Sting's full off air retirement speech after AEW Revolution (courtesy of SRS)

I'm quite glad to see with 184 comments that kbin seemingly didn't shit the bed during the PPV (though I didn't go through the comments yet so maybe it did at some point lol).

I'm gonna make another post or two on Fedia today and keep testing federation as well while catching up on the show, but I do wanna take a moment to thank all of you for the patience you've had lately with how shits been going. This has been the kind of shit that makes a mother fucker wanna go back to Reddit (if Reddit wasn't run by coked up half dead knob-heads of course) but we'll get through this shit.

Edit: Fedia is currently 1h since posting and nothing visible on 3-4 other instances.

I'd love to know how @Montagge and @Travon333 feel. They've been just as big a part of this as anyone. If they didn't show up to comment in the discussion threads then I probably would've hightailed it out of here long ago lol

  • Ironically I've been waiting 13h for a post I made on a mag I made on fedia to federate and none of the instances I have accounts on are showing it lmao https://fedia.io/m/SquaredCircle/newest#

  • ATTN: 🚨Community Announcement🚨 - We May Be Moving - Vote Inside!
  • I think the decision falls heaviest on our fellow kbin.social users. Since moving will also likely require them to make new accounts elsewhere to ensure federation issues are resolved. From my own observation, the fedio magazine will be the most familiar option and therefore easiest to transition to.

@TellumSiege I know commenting has been a pain for you but I'd really like you to weigh in on this. AKittyCat may have been our founder, and Geek may be the admin, but you're the one that really got the ball rolling and I think it's safe to say none of us would be here without you. Hell, when AKittyCat announced that you and I both were the new mods, I thought I was being pranked.
