Many developers don't feel represented by The Game Awards - but it would be unwise to expect them to change.
Article by Eurogamer arguing that The Game Awards are a sideshow which fails to recognize the conflicts in the video game industry and hardly even acknowledges internal criticism.
Eurogamer is currently owned by ReedPop, originally the organiser for this year's E3, which previously filled SGF's June announcement slot.
This entire article reads like Eurogamer is upset at Geoff Keighley's success. The awards definitely have problems and are more of a marketing opportunity than a recognition ceremony, but the reasoning listed is petty and asinine.
Not allowing developers to insert political narratives and industry gripes into their speeches makes sense for this context to avoid controversies. The 30 second speech cutoff was extremely frustrating to watch though.
