2023 Austrian Grand Prix Race Weekend Thread
Welcome
Welcome to the race weekend! Please use this post to discuss all the sessions for this weekends Grand Prix.
I suspect that this post will be a little more hectic with all the action this weekend. We'll look to change things up after this one if there is a demand for that.
Wow Perez fails to make Q3 AGAIN!
13 0 ReplyFastest car with the most out of form driver!
4 1 Replyfront row when it mattered /s

4 races in a row not in Q3 in the clearly fastest car. That's remarkably bad.
11 0 ReplyPerez had the Yips
2 0 Reply
Hulkenberg doing his usual in quali. P15 race finish incoming.
8 0 ReplyFYI, posts/comments from
lemmy.world
users seem to be federating tolenmy.ml
slowly/erratically. I've heard of this happening all over the lemmyverse, not just between those two servers, but a few regular posters are onlemmy.world
and so some weekend news might arrive slowly from them due to federation lag.7 0 ReplyThanks for this. I think I'm missing some of the .ml comments too

Albon, Albon, give that man a quicker car
7 0 ReplyI'm at the dentist instead of watching FP1 😭
7 0 ReplyHopefully you're done before Qualifying starts.
3 0 ReplyI'm back now!

Track limits is brutal, and I like it, but they need to be quicker.
7 0 ReplyI don't. These track limits are too brutal. There has to be some margin for error
1 1 ReplyThe white line is the margin for error.

Damn Perez not looking good
7 0 ReplyGutted for Albon losing that lap.
7 0 ReplyAll eyes on Checo, he has to make q3 this time
6 0 ReplySo weird to say this about a driver in the car that has won every race so far. But he has to, it would be amazing if he fucked up again.
6 0 ReplyWell...

Looks like there are going to be open seats at both Red Bull and Alpha Tauri…
5 0 ReplyThey might as well leave the cars empty, save on tyres
3 0 Reply
Nyck running out of races quickly.
5 0 ReplyI really hope he got a Zandvoort clause in his contract because he won't be there on performance metrics.
3 0 ReplyIf he's not gone in a month or two he's pretty much guaranteed to be gone at the end of the season anyway.

Norris is looking quick here!
5 0 ReplyOrchestral live performance for the national anthem is always a pleasure
5 0 ReplyAwww, Yuki it's ok! Everything is fine.
5 0 ReplyWow I did not expect Charles to get that close to Max. What a lap, but Max + the RB is just too good.
6 1 ReplyI think Max played it very safe with the track limits to avoid doing a Checo

This thread isn't pinned for me?
5 0 ReplyI'm aware that this is an issue for some, but I do not know why, or how to fix it.
5 0 ReplyIs it a federation issue¿?
2 0 Reply
Same for me, might be a federation thing?

I really wish the F1tv app had PiP support...
4 0 ReplyCan you not use the unnoficial multiviewer app?
3 0 ReplyNot on my phone lol

From the Dutch broadcast:
0.8 seconds between no.1 and no. 20 in Q1, last year De Vries would have been 10th.
4 0 ReplyNah, he would have had a slower time last year
4 0 ReplyTrue, but this just shows how much closer the entire field is.
2 0 Reply
Ferrari did well in quals!?
4 0 ReplyLast race they also had good strategy! What is happening.
4 0 Reply
Norris! The upgrades are working!
4 0 ReplyDamn good try Charles. At least he gave us a little excitement at the end there
4 0 ReplyStroll not bad
3 0 ReplyOut again! Fuck sake.
3 0 ReplyHey all, first post here just as RIF has just closed shop. Just like to point out Perez and Tsunoda start on the same row on Sunday, really hope Yuki gets to drive a competitive car before soon because his results definitely don't reflect his quality this year.
3 0 ReplyMcLaren seems to be closing in on Mercedes now too. Love that the field is closing up
3 0 ReplyPerez bruh
3 0 ReplyThis is getting ridiculous with the track limits
3 0 ReplyNor Hul Alo the top 3 with half a session done. I like these weird lists.
3 0 ReplyPiastri fastest without the upgrades and Max having to battle up the field? STOP THE COUNT!
3 0 ReplyNice! Awesome performance by Max again. Ferrari getting close, great to see.
3 0 ReplyTrack limits having no margin for error is crazy. People say that the drivers are able to stay out of the wall in street tracks but walls are easy to see. Lines on the other hand are difficult to spot from the cockpit. Getting penalties for going mere millimetres over must be sucking the joy out of drivers
3 0 ReplyGetting penalties for going mere millimetres over must be sucking the joy out of drivers
If only there were some way to compensate them millions of dollars for their frustration.
All I want for Christmas is consistent and prompt stewarding. If they enforce track limits more or less every time, either before the lap is over or during the following lap, I'm happy for them to track it down to the millimeter.

Where did the Ferrari performance come from? They seem to be really on it this weekend
3 0 ReplyLast year they nailed the Austria set-up as well. Maybe they just know what they have to here.
3 0 ReplyThey had a pirelli tyre test after Barcelona race. 314 laps between the two drivers. Supposed to have helped them a lot.
2 0 Reply
Hulk really has been exceptional in qualy this year.
3 0 ReplyHow much of the gap between Lando and piastri was the updates and how much was Austria-spec Lando¿?
I find it hard to believe that McLaren have gained that much time from their upgrades
3 0 ReplyAccording to McLarens socials Piastri had a lap removed for track limits, didn't see on the broadcast though and i don't if it would've got him to Q3
3 0 Reply
Perez deleted! No way!
3 0 ReplyLando was on used tyres there, wow
2 0 ReplyMan, many times getting deleted after minutes. That could get spicy after a session
2 0 ReplyRed Bulls still 9th and 10th after losing both times.
2 0 ReplyDe Vries getting shot out back after the race.
2 0 ReplyI have to leave right before Q3 starts by the way :( This better be uneventful
2 0 ReplyYou'll miss the Albon pole :(
3 0 ReplyI will not open Lemmy until I get back and watch it with a nice delay.
4 0 Reply
Perez doing the danger zone again
2 0 ReplyPerez only 0.06 behind Verstappen! Looks like he is alive after all.
2 0 Reply
Nobody is going to have any fresh tires left for tomorrow at this pace.
2 0 ReplyOh shit Perez lost his time and he only has time for one run. THIS IS CHAOS.
2 0 ReplyMax will lose that time, track limits
2 0 ReplyYeah that was too wide I'd say.

2 0 ReplyNew F1 bug!

If the Haas had race pace, they'd be scoring good points more regularly.
2 0 ReplyHamilton is really showing Russell who's boss the last few races
1 0 ReplySo... is this McLaren upgrade actually working or will they fall off during the race?
1 0 ReplyTrack dependant, they are always been strong here + Updates help as well
