The email I got was saying how you can use it to chat with friends inside maps to plan trips or something like that and the bot would intervene

Is it weird that I find this so unnecessary and intrusive?
It is haha, but I guess maybe someone who wants to be a tourist in a new place might just let the bot do the work instead of searching for things you like yourself
Why not just use... Messenging apps for that.
A few years ago Google got rid of a lot of their messaging apps. Now they need to make more so that they can have more.
and the clear choice for the best place to put said messaging feature is in... checks notes.. Google Maps
i can't see any way how this would be both inconvenient and possibly distracting. nope, no way.
They used to have that AI messaging arlo or whatever it was called
