This is how Rolling Stone is covering the revelation that Speaker Mike Johnson, a Christian, uses accountability software to protect his family from porn
Because it's not a blocker, it's a reporting tool. It doesn't stop anything, it just invades privacy. It doesn't teach that pornography is bad, it teaches them that it's restricted to someone they're not. It prevent parents from actually having to teach their kids morals and how to process the world, in favor of just blocking it out and pretending bad things don't happen.
Lmao what fucking universe do leftists live in that this is an issue? It seems like a far better solution than just trying to blanket block massive portions of the internet to filter porn and sexual content since "hard" filters usually just make the internet much more difficult to use, with many sites serving both regular and pornographic content, and are also pretty easy to get around in most situations. A "soft" filter that relies more on the human side of things seems far preferable, since it doesn't impede usage, and allows for far more nuance in things since a human can make far better value judgements regarding what is and isn't appropriate.
Also, the nature of an accountability system rather than just a router filter favors more open discussion over what is and isn't appropriate. It's insane that they spin this as some massive evil.
