It's not obvious from the video but I assume it was roadkill - squirrels are pretty nippy and a seagull would struggle to kill one, let alone eat it alive.
That was my guess also.

Unpleasantly, I'd imagine. They scoop up whole fish to eat so, I assume it's not much different except for all that fur. I'm now feeling a bit ill.
