Collectively cops are paid billions with many more millions in overtime. Just making the cops salaried with no overtime would be huge. But importantly removing cops would open up a ton of money for better solutions. A cop in NY makes over 100k a year. A social worker makes barely half of that. We could have 2 social workers for every cop. A therapist is also less than a cop. We can have better de-escalation with higher public trust for a fraction of the price.
Really, what do police do except perpetuate violence?
The police exist to defend capitalists' interests. The state can't call on a social worker when they need somebody to beat striking workers, or tear gas a riot.
