A pair of Joro spiders, Trichonephila clavata, caught mating

Of particular interest is the extreme size discrepancy between male and female in this species. This was also one of the largest females I've ever seen!

  • Nice shot! The male is missing a pair of legs? So much detail to look at, I like how golden those hairs look.

    • I went back and converted the photo from the raw file for a little more detail, like I should have done in the first place (lazy), and it looks like you're right! Curious that it seems to have lost one on either side. Anyway, it's not a huge difference but the post photo should be updated with the higher quality version now.
