Cycling communities were one of my favourite parts of reddit, and I've been unable to find any equivalents on here so I decided to start this community. Feel free to post and comment about anything related to cycling! I'd love for this place to continue in the spirit of /r/xbiking, not necessarily content-wise but definitely attitude-wise. We're all cyclists, and at the end of the day the only criteria for being a part of this community is riding a bicycle (and enjoying it!)
Please comment any suggestions you have for this space, or simply say hi and let us know what you like to do on your bike!
Nice! What was xbiking about? I thought I had been subbed to all the cycling subreddits but had missed that one. My jam these days is bikepacking, I love the combo of biking far and camping. Glad you made this community!
xbiking has always been a sort of loosely defined thing, but if I had to define it in a sentence I'd say it's cycling that is done primarily for adventure, with a certain disregard for the conventional cycling ethos which can kinda fall into snobbery at times.
Here's an archive.org link of a reddit thread where the creator of /r/xbiking explains it. It was by far one of my favourite subreddits, and I hope we get some similar activity here!
Cool cool, yeah I dig it. Cycling can dip into geeking out on gear, which can be alright, but leads to consumerism, which can lead to snobbery. I think most bike snobs are well intentioned though, or are rather harmless in any case.
I definitely went down the rabbit hole when putting my bike together (and bikepacking requires a whole extra gear round) and was super focused on performance for a while, but these days just cruise. Lots of phases in one’s cycling journey!
Also, feel free post about any upcoming bikepacking trips you have planned, biking and camping are indeed a lovely couple.
I'm going to assume that normal bike-like electric assisted bikes like this are alright too:
A good reason for that is because I find there is a staggering lack of basic bike knowledge in /r/ebikes (frames, componentry, mechanics) and people aren't getting any of it since they're segregated into their own echo chamber.
I hope that cannon is part of the bike

It's a bit outdated. There are a few improvements already. I'm currently replacing the bike computer and doing wiring cleanup along with it. It should look even better after that. I'll post. ☺️
Excuse me, I spend most of my time on three wheels moving my kids around. This egregious discrimination from the two wheeled community will not stand :D
