When on lemm.ee, the instance I have an account on, I don't see comments on a post in another instance (lemmy.world), so I cannot interact with/reply to a comment on that post. When I go to lemmy.world itself and go to that post, I see comments. However, since I don't have an account on that instance, I cannot interact with that post.
I'm still incredibly new to lemmy/the fediverse/etc etc so please let me know what I'm doing wrong!
Is lemm.ee new? You will only pull in comments and posts on stuff that was posted after your instance was created. Not only that but I think it also only pulls in content from communities once a user subscribed to it - so if you newly subscribed to a community, it will pull in a few recent posts IIRC. But if you find an older post it won’t grab the comments. I think
lemm.ee is about a day old I think (based on posts). the post I'm trying to interact with is 3h old, and I just subbed to the community about 20 mins ago. so does that mean I just have to wait and eventually the content will come through or it'll never come through?
Same thing happened to me, don't know how it exactly works. Maybe you need at least 1 person from our server to have interacted with this community before we pull updates?
You can only reply to messages by using the instance you have joined. Copy the post's or comment's URL and search that in the instance of your account. Then it will start detecting it and allow you to respond to that instance's content.
If I search the post URL, I get 0 comments.

Sadly, that's how it currently (seems to?) work(s). It will pull in new comments ever since the first interaction with the instance, however. (So comment 12, 13 etc. should get synced up with your own instance's view of that post.) I agree it's far from ideal, however. 😬
