Not happy with this. Feels like we're weakening our squad with zero gain in the short term. Especially with Timber out for the season. And even then, I'm not confident that he's going to make his value shoot way up for next summer. Just can't see this working out well for us.
I think we should be playing him, not loaning him off. Feel like we need another signing at LB now... if we rotate our full defence, as we will probably have to when the cups come to rest some players, it'll be Holding and Cedric both playing lol. We have straight up weakened our defence between selling Tierney and Timber being injured (though obviously out of our control on that).
I think it might be Partey RB and Tomi LB as the long term (or at least, as long term as Arteta thinks in, aka like, a year before we get even better), but that's kinda eh imo. Tomi is alright as a LB and Partey alright as an RB, but we can do better than playing them out of position
Hopefully this loan means he will come back with a good market value for the next summer window. Meanwhile, his salary will be paid, so it could be worse.
No loan fee, no option/obligation to buy, another year of his contract gone ... can't help but think of this as an Edu L. Why did all the interest from Newcastle/other Prem clubs dry up almost immediately?
Has Arteta forgot we're in 4 competitions this year? The UCL being the biggest one of them all. Zinchenko and Tomiyasu aren't gonna rotate efficiently, especially considering their injury records. Kiwior isn't a natural LB but he has played ahead of Tierney, why? We're gonna need Tierney's direct play and overlapping. Zinchenko, Tomiyasu and Kiwior won't cut it when we play against wing heavy teams like Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona, and I hate to say this Tottenham now Ange took over. Having Tierney on the bench to counter pacy wingers when Zinchenko is tired would have saved a few points last season.
Also let's get something straight. Tomiyasu played as a classic LB against Palace and got burnt multiple times by Ayew and Co. Tierney would have bossed that match. The more I think about it. The more I believe it might be Arteta wanting to offload all of the Emery era signings.
