Sri Lanka: no ‘IMF to the rescue’ for now

President Wickremesinghe says the Fund is holding back due to the unrest in the country - at least till end of August.

He added that there was no point blaming his predecessor, urging parties to come together instead to help pull the bankrupt nation out of crisis.

He also claimed that it was useless to pin hopes on other countries as these have signalled they won’t help either till the IMF deal is done.
