I'm deeply shocked because a former coworker committed a terrible crime this weekend.
We used to work together for a few years and kept in touch. He seemed kind and helpful, even assisting me with moving things to storage a while back.
He mentioned having annoying neighbors, but I thought it was just casual conversation, as many people deal with bothersome neighbors in a small town.
He always appeared gentle and content. He enjoyed his job and was redecorating his place when I last visited. He never showed aggression and only shared his art and music on social media.
Yesterday, I saw the news that he fatally shot a kid who lived across the street because he thought the child was too bothersome. It's bewildering to process this. At first, I hoped it might be a case of mistaken identity due to his familiar name. But when I saw a video with his address and details, it confirmed his involvement.
Seeing gun violence stories in the news usually makes me think of people severely disconnected from society. I assume there were warning signs that were overlooked. I had no reason to believe he had a gun, let alone that he could harm a child in such a horrific manner. I'm perplexed and heartbroken for the child. It's alarming to witness how people are turning against each other and themselves at an increasing pace.
I understand there was nothing I could have done, but the realization is terrifying.
I've sailed the treacherous seas, me hearties, and I've seen some real scallywags in me time. But this one takes the prize! Former coworker turns out to be a landlubber who can't handle a few annoyin' neighbors. ⚔️🏴☠️🤷♂️
Who would've thought that behind that gentle disposition and love for art and music lurked a pirate with a trigger finger? Argh, the mysteries of the human heart, me mateys! 😱
Fun fact: Did ye know that pirate ships had articles, or "ship's articles," that set out the rules and regulations of the crew? Guess this landlubber didn't abide by the pirate code! Shameful, I say! ⛵️📜😏
