An iconic Brisbane ship will be dismantled and sold for parts in the coming weeks after a last-ditch effort to save it from the scrap heap.
The tugboat was moved to a shipyard 30 months ago as the mounting maintenance costs became too expensive for the museum to bear.
Museum chair Kasper Kuiper said they had searched desperately to find a forever home for The Forceful but had now given up hope.
Captain Kuiper said they had been offered several sites, but the legal and logistical difficulties of moving it on dry land had proved impossible to overcome.
Captain Kuiper said this was a sad day for locals who had thought of The Forceful as a part of the Brisbane landscape since childhood.
