Picsur is giving me a 500 "internal server error". It works when I VPN into Germany, though, so it must be blocking my IP address/range or the CDN has region-specific problems.
For anyone else with this issue, here is a postimages.org mirror:
Also, I haven't drunk beer yet. At all. I'm pretty sure if one of the other 5 Czech Lemmings sees this, I have a few days left to live before they track me down. Hell, people are allowed low-alcohol beer on job sites in this country! It's specifically manual labor in "regions with specific socio-economic conditions" so pretty sure it's due to the miner union's lobbying.
The first beer that I liked enough to want to get it multiple times is the Ballast Point Habanero Sculpin. Unfortunately, I can't get it in my area anymore. Seems like it's only available at their brewery.
9.7/10 - Volta Brewery - ACAB: All Craftlovers Ale Beautiful
Sour with orange, guava, mango, maracuja, and sweet cherry.
Volta Brewery is based in Kyiv, Ukraine.
The previous batch was with an average price of ~4.5 EUR a liter.
9.5/10 - Ten Men Brewery - NOT FOR BREAKFAST CHERRY CHEESECAKE
Ten Men Brewery was based in Kharkiv, Ukraine, near the border with russia. After the invasion, they moved to Lviv, Ukraine, and then temporarily closed.
Three-quarters of their beers are my 8.5+/10. Mostly Sour/Smoothie. I'd fill in at least 5 favorites to this list from them alone.
They are very well-known pastry sour/smoothie/gose professionals. 4+ average on Untappd is huge.
Recently they started emerging again on Instagram with a new collaboration in Europe, I assume. You can follow them there and hopefully eventually taste them locally.
The average price for their pastry sours was ~2.8 EUR per 0.5 can.
8.5/10 - Tsypa Brewery - Black Barley
Wine-barrel-aged barleywine.
Tsypa (Ципа) means a gentle name for the word "chicken". The brewery is based in Kvasy, Zakarpattia Oblast, Ukraine (literally "Kvas Village"). They are not very famous but appreciated for their very light gose.
Also, their Sour Beer Dark and Sour Beer Pale (stupid naming) are also wine-barrel-aged, but sours. Very good. 8.5/10.
And of course, their Kvasne gose lineup, named after their village: Cucumber, Cabbage, Sour-cherry, Raspberry, Thyme. 7.5/10. I drink them during the hot season here in Kyiv, Ukraine.
Average price ~1.8 EUR per 0.33 bottle.
8.0/10 - Red Cat Brewery - Tomato Sour
Another brewery from the Kharkiv region, Ukraine. Despite being close to the russian border, they are still operating.
I love their tomato lineup: Tomato + Tabasco Sour, TOMATO+BBQ, TOMATO+Habanero, TOMATO+Сhipotle, Tomato + Basil, and others.
My favorite one is Lechotomato smoothie 8.5/10.
Average price ~3EUR a liter.
8.5/10 - Varvar Brew - Captain Salt
Traditional Sour Gose with only sea salt in it. Perfect for newcomers that still don't understand ""flavored"" beers.
Varvar Brew is a Kyiv-based brewery, one of the first craft breweries in Ukraine.
1.5 EUR per 0.33 bottle
9.5/10 - PLEMYA - Kapisce
Marshmallow Smoothie Style Imperial Pastry Fruited Gose. The highest-rated beer in Ukraine with a 4.46/5 average. Berry smoothie with marshmallow texture. It is as tasty as it is named.
~4.4 EUR a liter, if you are interested.
I can go on forever, but let's stop on the last, but definitely not least:
9.5/10 - SHO Brewery - Kysil
This year's new hit. Named after a fruited beverage Kysil, this smoothie pastry sour with sour-cherry pure with hibiscus and cinnamon blew the whole craft beer scene away.
SHO Brewery is a Mykolaiv-based brewery with a wide variety of beers and brave experiments. Mykolaiv is a frontline on Kherson's direction, if you are interested, so the city is under constant heavy fire.
~3.8 EUR a liter
Oops, it seems I'm a pasty sour soul :)
Tell me if you want to know more about the Ukrainian craft beer scene :)
But the absolute best beer I've ever had was a Sam Adams Cherry Wheat Lager. That thing just straight up tasted like a not very sweet cherry pie with only a slight hint of beer.
