Not person you were replying to but am in USA. Talk of moving to lemmy is growing and awareness spreading.
Reddit just introduced more stringent enforcement against promoting violence including enforcing those that upvote posts deemed to be violent. It sounds like quite a few posts that are objectively not violent have been marked as such.
Reddit is more well-known than Lemmy, and there is always a lot of inertia keeping people using the same social media they've always been using. Also, most of the communities people engage in are not on Lemmy.
By the way, are you not in the US? What made you decide to create this community dedicated to an American-focused topic?
