Is it possible to update the "standard" base layer?

I'm very new to this. I have used Street Complete to do some little things over the last few months, but made my first manual edits yesterday.

I'm starting by fixing up the small community where I live. A lot of stuff has already been done by some automation using "NRCan-CanVec-7.0" data and it's really wrong for civic numbers. But, it matches the numbers in the "standard" layer in the maps. I'm happy to go around and manually draw houses and update civic numbers (I did say it's a small community) but the map is going to look confusing when the base layer shows conflicting numbers. How can I fix that?

  • Knowing which map you are looking at will be helpful. It's a little confusing but OSM technically is just data and then maps are built from that data.

Street Complete makes a map, which is different from OsmAnd, which is different from Organic Maps, but they all use the same data.

I'm guessing you were just looking at the main openstreetmap.org website and used the built-in editor. The Standard layer is called OpenStreetMap Carto and the editor is called iD.

Whenever you submit edits from the editor, the Standard layer on the OSM website will automatically update. This usually only takes a couple minutes, but you will need to refresh the page to see the changes. OsmAnd and Organic Maps usually provide updates every month that need to be downloaded to see.

If you want, you can shoot me a message and I can take a look in the area as well.
