They do, actually. In the US, you technically don't own your land. The government does, and they can take and do whatever they want with it. The only benefit is that under the 5th Amendment, you have to be compensated for what they take. However, the government also controls land value, so what they see as compensation and what you see as compensation are 2 separate things

Government doesn't control land value. No government body says "New York has to be expensive!" or "Texas needs to be cheap as shit!"
The real estate market is based on what people will pay. It's mind blowing people think that there is a government department that no one has ever heard of making decisions everyone would be talking about. This is capitalism.
are you kidding me you think its just the free market at play here no way the government is involved they just dont want you to know about it theyre manipulating the system from behind the scenes and you cant see it because you dont want to believe it theyre controlling the narrative and youre just drinking the kool aid think about it who sets the zoning laws who decides what gets built where its not just the market its the government pulling the strings and youre just a pawn in their game of control and dont even get me started on the fed and how theyre manipulating interest rates to control the housing market its all connected wake up
