Let's do this every week! Super fun and a great atmosphere in here. I'm not going back to reddit. I was there 12 years, and saw it slip just like I saw digg slip before it. Let's keep this going while we wait for others to see the obvious - once the people who create the best content leave there's no reason to stay there.
Hello, this is Marvin Vettori's brain. I'm not able to answer the phone right now, but please leave a message and I'll get back to you after round five.
I'd like to start a petition to replace Cruz with Laura Sanko. I think it'd be nice to get a former female fighter's opinion in there, and she's well spoke and deserves it.
Historically, no one has EVER beat an ass more than Cannonier at middleweight, and yet somehow Vettori is still here. That dude probably lost 2 or 3 years off his career tonight, though.
TIFU guys, as an aside. Went fishing today, was wading in a stream I've never waded before. Took a step and in that exact spot the water was about 3 feet deeper than on either side. Went completely under, cut my legs up and lost my phone. Phone is....not water proof. $300 fishing trip feels bad man.
My favorite ref is the ref that gives a warning if it needs a warning and takes a point if it was serious. I think too many refs are hesitant to take a point on things like fence grabs that change the whole position of fight or eye pokes that compromise the fighter for the rest of the fight. I'd like to see more points taken until the behavior decreases across the whole industry
ehh after a while it felt like Marvin had nothing for Jared, looked like he was too slow. Corner should've thrown in the towel, he wore the damage well but that could take some time to recover from

I love the "live odds" on screen because they exist to make the fight seem closer. The on-screen graphic was like +180 and -200 or some shit. Draftkings has it at -1300 to +750 lmao
Marketing. The fighters get their names out to fight fans much more easily than those who go the "normal" route to a contract, the UFC gets a bunch of relatively cheap entertainment broadcasting to the world just how much of a meathead these guys can be.
I'll say it again, if Vetorri does that blast double from across the octagon, you can count on Cannonier landing a knee or uppercut. Gonna get interesting.
Unless I'm mistaken, McGregor has now passed the deadline where he needed to test in order to fight this year, right? Or was there news of him entering the pool that I missed?
Flick literally looks like the meth dealer you'd see at the mall. He sells heroin too but hates that shit, only keeps it around to keep his meth business afloat (gets high on his own supply too much)
got drunk last night and accidentally bet $10 on Jiminy Cricket here getting a first round win by KO/TKO/DQ. I'll get $290 if he does but uhhhhhh I've already kissed that money goodbye
On the replay it kinda does look like he tries to tap but his arm is stuck so he can't, but then when Keith Peterson moves in and touches his hand it's clear that he could've tapped if that was his intention. Poor split-second decision by the ref there.
Bondar should be a little more focused on winning the round and a little less on showing off. I know you wanna make a name for yourself as someone other than the guy that had the freak injury, but let's start by winning a fight, maybe?
the only good thing about this duluth trading company loch ness monster ad is that it's not their standard "HEY THIS SHIT FEELS SO GOOD ON YOUR BALLS AND ASS, BROTHER" shtick
There are levels to this, folks. I thought Sabatini might get caught on an obvious entry, but instead he just absolutely embarrassed this guy. Good for him.
Why is Peterson so eager to stop the fight RIGHT as there's a tap? I mean he doesn't hesitate to let fighters receive follow up shots until they nearly die, but God forbid someone gets choked two seconds extra? Super bad
Getting punched in the head after being rocked/concussed is super bad, that's pure brain damage right there. Being choked a few seconds extra I've never came across as causing brain damage, it's now way near the minutes needed for that
I feel like the UFC is getting super watered down. Tons of no name fighters so they don't have to pay them much, and WAY too many people with 5-0 or 6-0 jumping in here. I remember when it used to be that if you saw a person at 5-0 in the octagon, you were like "Oh my God, they must be amazing."
By Felder's logic, if someone stopped in front of you, looked at you and then purposely poked you in the eye you wouldn't take a point unless he did it hard?
I swear I'd spend all my time learning to frame up, dig an underhook and turn my opponent if I had come into mma from a striking base. Become an expert in that? You're gonna go a long way.
bleda: "i'm going to pin you against the cage/climb on top of you and do absolutely nothing"
fernandes: "yeah sounds good, I'll let you do that and also not do anything, either"
do either of these broads want to win the fight???
Fernandes isn't ground savvy enough to get to her feet, but she's just savvy enough to stall out bleda/bleda isn't savvy enough to get past her defense and successfully strike from the ground. Makes for a slow fight, but whatevs. They can't all be KOs I guess.
me at the start of round 2: silva is fucked. he's never been more fucked than he is right now
me, during the last two minutes of the fight: oh shit is he actually doing something here?
Hey, eatmore, I see you mod TV suggestions mag. I created 'I hate my manager' mag, but I can't figure how to post in it? I can only seem to post to the microblog, and those come from my mag having tags to other fediverse mags.
Sick this is great. Thanks for making a fight thread @sirvalkyerie can i give you a markdown table of the card to put in the thread description for reference?
I'm not sure how much of that we will see going forward. I'm sure we'll see some but not as much as in the past. They make more money by signing mid level guys and just filling ESPN cards.
I think the narrative that some refs are bad is just kinda based on whatever happened most recently. I remember when it was Big john is the best in the business and herb dean was a screw up depending on the day. Now it seems like Herb gets the prestige, though I don't think he's calling the fights any better than he ever did.
Gotta learn to defend takedowns against the cage. It's something you have to be able to do, plain and simple. Get in the gym, learn to dig underhooks and turn people and separate.
Headed to the cupboard. Time to get out the tequila and do a shot every time Brendan Fitzgerald talks about someone having a dance partner. Glad I'm not working tomorrow
Vetorri better not try a blast double from the other side of the octagon like he sometimes does. Cannonier will end that man's career with a knee or uppercut.
