What's happening to Invidious instances?
It seems that YouTube is killing them all but I don't know the technical details, via FreeTube I noticed, from this link (https://api.invidious.io/), that there are very few left and they require signup, and probably financial support from users.

Running a remote instance without some sort of IP rotation became infeasible. I've been running it locally since google started actively trying to kill invidious. The only reason that still works is because they want to avoid collateral damage that could affect other people in the household.
What do you use it for? You don't get the privacy benefits when running it locally though right? Since your IP gives away your identity
Mainly to avoid using YouTube and the mess of that interface. All i need is a chronoligical feed of the channels I like. I'm not overly concerned that they can associate my IP with some viewing activity. As long as there are multiple people in the household using YouTube, it's not a given they know who's watching what. Also it's much easier to have multiple invidious profiles and use them with Firefox containers than it is to have multiple YouTube accounts and switch between them.
I don't know how, but the Android app LibreTube with instance passthrough enabled still works.
LibreTube uses Piped instead of Invidious. I tried LibreTube, but some subscription videos don't show up because of an upstream bug with Piped. I am continuing to use Tubular (a fork of NewPipe that adds SponsorBlock) until either the Piped bug gets fixed or until NewPipe finishes rewriting their code.
I have been using freetube with the “local api” setting for a long time without having problems but recently I notice that some videos are not loading.
