P'nut the Squirrel, beloved pet and internet sensation, put to death by New York State

I wonder what the left wing response to this story will be. Seems like everyone loved P'nut.

I do actually see the arguments for taking him, especially since the legal papers required for ownership weren't completely filed yet, but I can't imagine what reasoning could be used to kill P'nut.
