13 0 ReplyIt's a common technique in crown moulding, you just layer different pieces and then hide the seems with paint.
This one is even better for showing how it's done.

16 0 ReplyIsn't crown molding one piece? At least vertically, it's like strips of wood around the ceiling? Who designed this abomination? That piece of wood that was dremmeled to all hell would've been huge.

In most cases it's asthetic only, but I've used crown moulding to hide wire runs which would have been a pain to run inside the wall or ceiling.
But stacking that many mouldings is nuts.
