Just a preference thing I guess, but I'm curious where people fall. On my gen1 KLR I had stock foot pegs, and I liked them because they were narrower, and sort of "locked in" to the arch on my boot when I was standing.
My Gen2 KLR and now my KTM both have wider pegs, I know thats better for tarmac, and they seem to have plenty of bite, but I never quite got used to it.
Anyone else feel similar? Just looking for some input before I "downgrade"
I switched to toothy all metal footpegs on my KLR largely because of the Common Wisdom being parroted everywhere about the stock pegs being "slippery" or "inadequate." Honestly, I never found the stock pegs to be a problem.
I do like that the aftermarket metal pegs I have now don't have a rubber thingy on them that I have to worry about wearing out. But just bear in mind that aftermarket pegs will surely have a slightly different height than your stock ones which will inevitably involve dicking with your shifter and rear brake pedal height which is an extra layer of annoyance.
I never had an issue either! My gen2 KLR came with upgraded pegs (previous owner farkled everything, in the good way), and I just never liked them as much.
Pegs are pretty subjective. I prefer a large peg to support my foot as much as possible. Long hours on the bike standing up can make my feet hurt by the end of the day. But as important as they are I have a difficult time justifying $200-$300 for after-market pegs. Theyâre fairly low on my priority list; I usually end up running whatever stock pegs came with the motorcycle.
yeah they are one of those things that make you go "HOW much?!". Glad to hear more people say it's subjective. People would tell me the same thing you said, but I just don't like the way my foot "seats" when I transition from sitting to standing quickly, and I like even less the brake/shift control I have.
