After a family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia's life is turned upside down when her teenage daughter, Astrid, accidentally opens the portal to the Afterlife.
I enjoyed the film in the moment but as I look back on it, even though there's a lot of things I liked, I'm not sure it is as good as I thought it was. Here's that thought elongated into 1000 words.
A real blast - Burton (and the cast, especially Keaton who, I suspect, would play the role for free) were clearly having a great time, with Burton taking full advantage of modern technology which, combined with all the design aesthetic and physical effects in the original, really takes things to new heights. Even then it doesn't just feel like he's going through the motions - there are, for example, two flashbacks in widely different styles, apparently just for the hell of it.
