Admiral, if we go "by the book", like Lt. Saavik, centimeters would seem like inches.
Why didn't you use the way they spoke in the film?
Valeris: "A lie?"
Spock: "An exaggeration."
"Exaggeration" is Wrath of Khan with Saavik. "A lie?" is Undiscovered Country with Valeris.
