  • I love the concept, especially with the IO modules. But I wouldn't know what to do with the old device/parts even if I can easily built a new machine out of them. The last time I got a new laptop I sold the old one, so it didn't go on a landfill anyways.

    • The thing that interests me the most is the upgradable speakers/webcam.

My current laptop has the crappiest speakers, and the webcam is beyond garbage. I would give anything to be able to pop in some new 2023 ones.

I already see they have better speakers available on their website. Not to mention future upgrades. No doubt webcams and stuff are going to get better, and you don't necessarily need a whole new laptop just because you started a job that requires you to have a decent webcam.

      I freaking love it.

Or just the fact you can swap the screen from glossy to matte if you want in literal seconds. Now imagine if in the future they release some nice 4K panels?

    • In an ideal world, you'd also sell the parts. Someone who couldn't afford the new model should be able to assemble an older model from spare parts.

But another option is to 3D print a case for the mainboard, then run it as a Lemmy server :)

      • Ah, so you're the culprit, "Dave Lemmy". Tried registering the lemmy.nz domain a few of days ago as it was available, but unfortunately I put it off for the next day and bam, it was gone. :'(
