Religion in the classroom has been a hot topic in Cy-Fair ISD. Now, with new Bible courses being offered, parents are expressing their concerns, especially with the district not hiring new teachers for the course.
Literature and the Bible, and Western civilization and the Bible will be elective courses starting next school year.
This is most likely not the kind of Bible teaching you're used to, and somehow I don't think you'd like it very much.
Reading the Bible as literature rather than a holy book requires actually taking the words at face value instead of twisting them to mean what you want them to mean. Properly teaching western civilization's relationship to the Bible means teaching about all the death and suffering that happened as the result of Christianity.
Now even kids in Texas will learn about a failed apocalyptic prophet named Jesus!
Maybe they should go with a book that doesn't tell you how much you can beat your slaves though? That's one fucked up god.
Do Joseph Smith next! He's a lot more fun, although the prose in Mormon texts is awfully repetitive, kind of like when the Bible goes on for a whole chapter about genealogy. Come on, I just want to get to the genocide and incest boat!
