KBin is not only a link aggregator like Reddit, it's also a microblogging site, like Twitter. Because of that, Boosts are most similar to retweets and help spread someone's microblogs, while upvoting helps bring up content in the aggregated boards.
Dang. All this time I have been "boosting" instead of "upvoting".
