Installed it this morning. I already finished the expedition on Steam but I think I will do it again on the Switch since the robot head is just too cool.
There's been one major update since the Switch release, adding a new type of ship and two new multitools, but that hasn't significantly changed how the game is played. Sorry that it hasn't hooked you in!
I do recommend trying out an expedition (the current one is live for another 4 weeks). It's a bit different from the main game, because it guides you to do specific things through a sequence of objectives, with some pretty cool unique cosmetics as a reward. It's time limited content, but usually there's plenty of time so you don't feel pressured to complete it as quickly as possible.
I actually decided to jump back in and start a new standard file (I was going to do the expedition but it suggested doing that only if I was already familiar with the game) and I actually kind of... love it now? I'm still in the tutorial and have just reached the space station but I'm having so much fun with it.
A couple times now I’ve run into an issue in transiting freighters. It’s happened on my capital ship and derelicts. When the new construct appearance I’ll be running around and then for seemingly no reason I’m unable to walk from one room to the next. On my freighter I can tap the jet pack and get through. On derelicts, where the jet pack is disabled, I’m just stuck. I reloaded and went back to the derelict with a “normal” appearance and had no issues. Anyone else seen this issue?
First time I’ve ever bothered with an expedition, how often do new ones tend to come out? All in all I gotta say it was a weird experience starting a new save. I hadn’t realized how comfortable I got having all the money and materials I could want stored up. It was surprising how completely I had forgotten what inventory management was like with so few slots! Happy to see that I could get both heads too.
They roughly do about 4 expeditions every year, each running for 1-2 months. Usually at the end of the year, they replay all of the expeditions from that year as redux expeditions, which are much quicker to complete and run for 2 weeks each. It's a way for anyone who missed the original to catch up on the rewards.
