Also I suggest replacing the Hard drive with a card that lets you put in SD cards.

There was also rockbox that let you play flac on iPod. https://www.rockbox.org/
Or less exteme, I'm sure that foobar2000 had plugins for managing your iPod.

3 0 Replyit let's you use the iPod like a USB drive where you can play anything that you put on there. it can also play ogg vorbis or vorbis or a lot of at her formats.

I got my 2 Gen Nano in 2008 and ditched iTunes after day one, EphPod worked just fine.
