I definitely think for me it’s the memories. The anticipation kinda sucks honestly since I have anxiety, the event is usually pretty cool tho and then I replay the best parts in my memories for a long time after. Like a highlight reel of only good things.
For me, I think it's the memories. I don't have the same anticipation I did when I was younger: what happens, happens. I do enjoy the moment, but I think getting to remember it, see the photo, share the memory with someone else - that'll give so many returns.
