Why take the gun, when you could plant a baggy of crack on the officer?
Because the officer probably already has a baggie of crack to plant in your car, after he tears you out of it to search.

There's already too many cops that kill people in cold blood and then claim that their victim tried to get their gun, failed to get it, ran away and then turned around and charged at them
