View from The Hill: Dunkley byelection a poor result for Peter Dutton’s pitch for the outer suburbs
The government has easily retained the the Melbourne seat of Dunkley at Saturday’s byelection. Labor’s primary vote is stable while the Liberals did get a swing, it was not as big as many hoped.
The coalition will need to improve their double speak if they are to appeal to both the working class outer suburbanites and their elite business lobby donors. The two groups have polar opposite political wants.
For at least the past 40 years the coalition have waged a vicious class war against anyone not in the top percentiles of wealth. I doubt they are seriously considering changing course there.
I love the article saying they need policy. Why would they need policy? They didn't have any last time, and the mad monk rolled on in on stop this, no that! /j
