In this post, I will revisit the topic of publishing a single exe for a WinUI application. I tried to do this in the past and it was quite a challenge - thatβs an understatement, it was impossible. Yo
I'm not a .NET person, but single exe apps have been hard for most deployments since Win95 came out. I do remember fondly the notion but have largely given up on the idea.
Yeah I haven't tried it since I started with Xamarin, but curious about it (and yeah, have seen blog posts about how hard it's been). I was in an argument with someone about it once. I play Songpop, and the original version used Flash (played via Facebook in the browser), and so with the demise of Flash they switched to native versions (I tried to get them to switch to Xamarin, but they stuck with having separate teams for each platform, which of course has been an ongoing source of bugs ever since - sigh. Mind you, these people don't even know how to make a proper database for the game, but that's another story π) and at the time one player was going off about how you had to download it from the Windows Store (he had some kind of philosophical opposition to doing that apparently π), and he INSISTED that it should be available as an exe to download from a website. I told him apps don't get deployed like that anymore, but he wanted to maintain the rage, so I just left him to it. π
