The International Longshore and Warehouse Union Canada (ILWU) said Monday that an eye-popping 99.24 per cent of members cast a ballot supporting job action if necessary.
Would anyone be able to comment on the tangible effects of the strike? The article just says it could have “damaging effects on the economy” - are we talking shortage of goods or something else? What flows through the BC ports?
A huge amount of goods go through BC ports so yes, I imagine it would definitely lead to certain shortages or delays. All the more reason to take the union seriously IMO.
The workers, based primarily in Vancouver and Prince Rupert, handle roughly 16 per cent of Canada’s internationally traded goods.
So lots of stuff, too much stuff to mention. Mostly from Asia. I wouldn't be surprised if some of it can be routed through LA and other ports, but it could definitely be a big disruption!
