An ex-admin to whom we have given access to the server, has reported us to the server provider. Also we were already planning to migrate somewhere else. So right now we're moving to a more secure server.
I'll try to make a smooth transition. Any interaction (post, comment, like etc.) after 11AM (CET) will be deleted, but the site will not be down during migration. It will be an estimated 1 hour process.
Update: its done. Hopefully without problems. If you see this, you are on the new server.
Wow. I don't know what all the hubbub was about, but I just want to say thanks. Y'all are providing a valuable service and it seems like you're taking a lot of shit for it. Your work is appreciated.
The original post stated the country they are located in, they seemed to have edited it. Here's an archive: https://archive.ph/fqD5S They seem to be hosted in Ukraine at the moment.
Ha, man that sucks. Glad the transition went smoothly.
TBH this place has some strict rules regarding content so I am surprised that an ISP would even care. I'm guessing since this instance still hosts LGBT content it could put someone in hot water in some more morally strict countries.
First a back-end mod tries to poison the well. Now an admin tries to sabotage the servers. Seditionists everywhere!
I am curious how you knew who reported the server? Did the ISP inform you, or did the ex-admin tell you afterwards as some act of defiance? And what even caused them to do this in the first place?
Edit: Misread server provider as service provider. Please disregard the ISP related questions.
It’s kinda crazy how much people complain. This is free. They’re not paying anything. They could go elsewhere or setup their own. Instead they just want to shit on other peoples fun. Wtf?
Anyway, glad it went smooth. And thanks for all that you do.
Thanks for everything the admin(s) do to make this page possible. It's not just a corner of the internet where people talk about pornography and #nsfw things. It's much more than that.
An approach,
for open source,
for the community,
for an open and liberal communication
a role model how to deal with different opinions on (sometimes quite challenging topics and borders).
I've just discovered first hand what it means to make the first contribution as a mod (nothing! compared to what others are doing here). And I can't even fathom the effort it means for those who make all this possible here in the first place. In fact, everyone should be grateful and do their part (support the community, donate, post and comment) which can be done to take the burden off admins.
Posters can go to https://pornlemmy.com for one hour, then come back. LemmyNSFW and PornLemmy are federated, so everyone will see all posts, here or there.
I believe I saw in the other post that the admin team was planning on moving to a Russian server. Is this true?
Given current circumstances in the world, I would like to know if the server fees paid are going to the Russian government (via taxes) and thereby supporting an ongoing conflict.
This might just be me, but does anyone else have the issue that videos can't be opened within the lemmy interface anymore? When I click on a video hosted on files.catbox.moe, it just doesn't expand anymore. It did that yesterday...
Also, I think I saw on another instance that redgifs Videos could be expanded in the interface as well. Was that added in a newer version? If so, it would be really cool if this instance could update.
We are back once again! Until the current host finds out that you're hosting pornographic content in a jurisdiction where porn is illegal, that is.
For those who missed it.
TL;DR: Admins originally chose hosting provider who did not allow pornography. They are now moving to a new hosting provider, with their new server located in a country where pornography is outright illegal.
These are the same admins who are constantly talking about having to make sure that everything they are doing is legal. 🤔
How can you say this when you are currently hosting in a country where pornography is outright illegal?
Not to mention choosing a host which didn't allow pornography in the first place.
Doesn't sound like you care about legality much at all to me.
I'm trying to create a community but it says community already exists while creating but when trying to view the community via direct link it says community doesn't exist.
