Hi, so good someone made a community. I know nothing about Kdramas but I would like to watch some. What can you recommend?
I would like something cute and chill wit heart melting scenes. On the other end of the spectrum maybe some thriller with some fucked up plot? (thinking in terms of what I use to watch in Korean Movies, read OldBoy).
Honestly, my favourite to recommend to a newbie is Crash Landing on You, or CLOY as it is popularly known. CLOY has a bit of everything - it has the cheesy and cute romance, comedic and romcom moments, has some thriller and action sequences, and has great production value. It's perfect to get a taste of kdrama cheesiness, in my opinion.
On the other end of the spectrum, I'll recommend Kingdom. It's a zombie action thriller set in historical Korea. Great action sequences, has some political intrigue which is common for historical Kdramas, and has insanely good production value. One of the best zombie thrillers I've seen.
Hopefully you can see my comment - I'm still learning about Lemmy. Adding my recommendations below.
Cute and chill dramas with heart melting scenes:
Strong Woman Do Bong Soon
Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo
Love To Hate You
Hospital Playlist
Coffee Prince
Thriller with fucked up plot:
Crime Puzzle
Through The Darkness
Tell Me What You Saw
The Glory
Bad Guys
The Veil
Mouse
My Name
D.P. (Season 2 is coming out July 28th)
Big Mouth (I haven't seen this, but many people liked it until right at the last episode)
Heart melting chill dramas with not at all fucked up slightly thrilling plot:
Missing: The Other Side
Prison Playbook (same director as Hospital Playlist)
Generally Kdramas are less intense compared to their movie counterpart, due to broadcasting rules. Squid Game came out on Netflix, so it wasn't bound by their usual broadcasting rules due to it being on a streaming platform.
Hopefully that's a good list to get you started with. Let me know if you need more specific recommendations later.
PS: Squid Game 2 is coming out next year. They've announced the casts recently and have done some preliminary script reading. Likely to go into production soon.
Extraordinary attorney woo. It's primarily about a lawyer with autism and has many fun loveable moments. It's so easy to watch too and doesn't suffer from a lot of the cornyness I see from other kdramas.
