I am entirely new to the fediverse and not experienced at modding anything, so would be very grateful for mod volunteers, suggestions on community guidelines, alternative media to use for the site, sidebar content, or whatever!
I tossed up a banner image using a photo that I took from the CCL championship celebration / trophy lift, but any alternative free to use, higher quality image would be great.
Love that you've set this up. I'm thinking about trying to set up an RSS feed bot to repost Sounders content to the community: Sounders At Heart, Nos Audietus and the Seattle Times to start maybe? Would that be something we'd be interested in, just to jumpstart the community and get some content going?
I'm not opposed to giving it a try - I've been more or less doing that by hand. What do others think?
Whether it's by hand or by bot, I do worry a little bit about drowning out user submitted posts as we get going. Over on some other communities it seems like user posts can be buried quickly under an avalanche of goal vids, for instance, but maybe that problem will self correct. Thoughts?
If you know how to set up bots, do you have any idea how we could get an automated match thread bot going?
I do. The general idea would be to grab a Google Cloud Platform free tier hobby server and deploy https://github.com/janschlatter/feddit-matchbot on it. I'll try with !reign_fc and once I get it working, I'll check back in about adding it here.
Thanks for setting this up! Im a bit late to this but I think everything looks good and on the right track here. Im very interested to see how it grows! Ever since I joined Lemmy, Ive been wanting to be more involved with the communities more than I did with reddit where I never commented. Ive never been a mod or anything but if you need anything Im always down to learn and help anyway I can! Go Sounders!
I second this, thank you! I’m new to the fediverse too, since June 12 anyway, and am missing so many of my niche and local subs. Similarly to OP, I’ll try to be less of a lurker this time around.
That sounds great! I never posted a single thing on Reddit either, but this feels much more akin to my days on bulletin boards 15-20 years ago. Please post!!
Hey, somebody else is here! I will definitely try to get the match threads going, starting tomorrow. If one is missing, though, feel free to start one.
There are some rudimentary bots being put together to facilitate auto-posting of match threads in some of the other communities along with score updates, lineups, etc. If those look like they're going to work and I or someone else is able to figure out how to run them, perhaps we could set that up too.
