This idea of a majority Jewish state, kept so through military occupation of Arab-dense territories, needs to simply go away.
I’m a one-state solution guy. Let everyone there practice their religion in peace and access their holy sites freely, and let democracy reign.
Israel’s big sin is that they want democracy BUT only with a majority Jewish population and an official state religion etc etc etc. It’s more than a Jewish homeland - it’s an ethnostate.
That is what needs to end. It doesn’t go somewhere else. No one gets pushed into the sea. We just stop pretending like we can use arms to carve out the “democracy” we want, and Israelis and Palestinians all live in a state that guarantees their freedom and safety.
Some fear that extremists will rise and take over that pluralistic society: build a constitution that prevents this. Embrace pluralism. Marshall Plan the fuck out of Gaza until the Palestinians see they have more to lose than their misery.
How do you propose your plan survives the inevitable waves of suicide bombers when you remove the walls and checkpoints?
Do you force the settlers to give the land back?
How do you deal with the hardliners on both sides who would do everything in their power to foil your plan? What if those people have popular support and your plan doesn't?
Does Palestine simply cease to exist as it's incorporated into Israel? What do you do about the Palestinians who would argue you're trying to erase their culture and identity?
Who pays to rebuild Gaza?
Do we call it a day and let those accused of war crimes off the hook or do we hold them to account?
Or apartheid South Africa, Nazi Germany, West and East Germany, Yugoslavia, South Vietnam, Austria-Hungary, the Ottoman Empire, the USSR, etc. Countries change all the time. Normal people don't care they just keep on living their lives. They're just lines on a map. It's weird people don't understand this.
So your grand plan is that people can either stay or go. If they stay then what? If they go then, once again, WHERE?
You can't just rock up at a different country and start making yourself at home, you realize that, right?
I've re-read your comments, you don't have a plan, your bullshitting and now you're getting pissy because I pressed you for details you don't have because you don't know what you're talking about.
Same place the rhodesians went. Many stayed in the new country (Zimbabwe), many immigrated away to surrounding countries or Europe. In the case of Israel a simikar situation can happen, and mang Israelis are dual citizens.
OK, and how to do propose this frankly deranged and unworkable plan is put into effect? A full scale invasion of Israel? By whom? What about the Israelis who don't have dual citizenship?
I'm asking for details from you and OP. All I'm getting is vague hand waving.
Give it back to Britain, or since it’s basically a US state elect someone willing to put the boot down. Those without dual citizenship cna become citizens of the new country / territory.
Don't go there.
If people would've had these opinions on Germany after WW2 that would've went really bad.
Germany has been rehabilitated not perfectly but imo rather well.
I think it is possible for Israel/Palestine as well.
Or are you suggesting to genocide Israelis like their government is doing to Palestinians right now?
That'd be pretty fucked up, don't you think?
The state of Germany as it were no longer exists. It was literally deleted. This doesn't mean that all of Germany was genocided. You just cooked up a worst case of your own head and projected it onto op.
Read my comments. I am not defending the genocide. Just not a big fan of the removal of any states or people.
Your rage is directed in the wrong direction.
People did have these opinions after WW2. They removed nazis from poland, france, russia, etc. Similarly, if zionists refuse to accept freedom, equality, etc., then they're free to return to their actual "homelands" in europe, asia, africa, etc. for rehabilitation.
I think "Israel" needs to be demilitarized and dezionified so that they cannot hurt anyone else. The people responsible for the genocide and crimes against the Palestinian people need to be tried in a court.
Let an international alliance govern the affairs of a new state of Palestinians and Jews willing to live together in piece. Everyone else who wants to continue the violence can fuck Off.
I don't understand why I am being downvoted for this except that maybe some of these people screaming for peace here actually just want to reverse the killing.
It's probably because your comment shows a lack of understanding of the region. A demilitarized Israel is a destroyed Israel. They've been attacked by every surrounding state multiple times. Hamas, Lebanon/Hezbollah, and Iran have been consistently firing rockets into Israel for years.
The reason why these conflicts are so complicated is that both sides have done so many horrible things that no one is on the "right" side of history. It's like trying to argue who was the good guy in all the wars of Medival Europe.
Maybe just "would've gone", if I'm speaking English.
Or are you suggesting to genocide Israelis
I think one can stop propping them up and emboldening them to attack every neighbouring country on the shittiest of sham pretexts, and prevent their repeated belligerent invasions of other sovereign nations without going as far as actually attacking them back, let-fucking-alone going all the way to genocide.
That's a bit of a leap, don't ya think? I've seen goalposts move, but that's a little ridiculous.
Thank you for correcting me in such a condescending way. Not everyone is a native speaker, doesn't mean I don't speak English.
Look at the comment I am replying to. The literally said Israel must go. What is that implicating? Certainly not Israel needs to be rehabilitated, like Nazi Germany, which is what I am advocating for here.
Reading your second paragraph, we seem to agree.
It's the Comment I am replying to that seems to want Israel gone. How do you make that happen, without eradicating or displacing them (both of which is considered genocide)?
Thank you for correcting me in such a condescending way.
That's an assumption. Am I psychic?
Not everyone is a native speaker, doesn't mean I don't speak English.
Non-native speakers usually write English really well. Should I know your background and education and your intent like I'm psychic, or should I hope everyone does something correctly and look toward that as a goal?
Sorry I didn't measure up to the next layer of goalposts!
