What makes you say that?
Because men typically protect their nuts more than their life. I don't see any soldiers voluntarily absorbing the recoil from a machine gun with their nads.
That's very true, but that looks to be too high up to be on the nads. It looks like they're bracing it against their pelvis.
Why though?
I would assume this is before the adoption of the BAR.
